Roots of the Can-Am Prairie Region can be firmly traced back to the early 1950’s.  Art Southworth, a resident of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was the proud owner of 1951 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn.  Well before the internet and cellphones, Southworth heard about the formation of a brand new automotive club based in the United States for Rolls-Royce and Bentley owners.  Southworth became a member of the RROC in 1952.  To this day Southworth is recognized as one of the earliest Western Canadian members of the RROC.  Despite his geographical location, Southworth realized there was interest in Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles north of the border in Western Canada.  He began reaching out to ‘nearby’ owners.  Many of these owners lived hundreds or even thousands of miles away.  Bob Taylor, also a recent RROC member, was quick to reply.  Several small gatherings were held in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.  In 1969 both Southworth and Taylor decided that an official ‘event’ should be held.   A formal get together was organized and a date was set.  Invitations were mailed out announcing a gathering for Rolls-Royce and Bentley owners at the Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, Alberta on September 27th, 1969.  A total of 13 people attended this event and 8 beautiful Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles were on display at the Mayfair.  The self titled “Alberta” region was born and operated as such for six years.  At the end of 1976 the RROC announced the naming of the Prairie Region for Rolls-Royce and Bentley owners.  The Can-Am Prairie Region of the RROC celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017.
